Phillip T. Guillen, MD, is a Board Certified Long Island based orthopedic surgeon who is fellowship trained to provide comprehensive, state-of-the-art surgery for the bones, joints, tendons, nerves and muscles of the hand and upper extremity for both adults and pediatric population. Most recently, he completed a hand and upper extremity surgery fellowship at the prestigious Stony Brook Medical Center in Long Island, N.Y. He wanted to bring world-class training and innovative surgical techniques from around the country to his practice having trained along the West Coast, Midwest and East Coast.
Providing care for all orthopedic problems, Dr. Guillen’s practice focuses on operative and non-operative treatment of shoulder, elbow, and hand problems. Specifically, Dr. Guillen offers endoscopic carpal tunnel, trigger finger, cysts and mass excisions; Tommy John surgery of the elbow, Xiaflex for dupytrens, microsurgery, and treating hand crush, nerve and tendon injuries. An extensive list of conditions treated can be found below. He also is trained in complex tendon and nerve reconstruction for permanently damaged nerves and arm and hands. He also is trained and performs total and reverse total shoulder replacements routinely for arthritic and post-traumatic shoulder conditions. In addition he treats all upper extremity/finger fractures.
He routinely attends conferences to stay up-to-date on the latest cutting edge technology implementing proven techniques in his practice. Stem cell and PRP injections are also offered. He has trained at multiple level 1 hospitals and worked within a large metropolitan region as well as rural hospitals treating farming and industrial injuries.
Academically, Dr. Guillen has researched and published numerous peer-reviewed articles and presented nationally and internationally.
Dr. Guillen is a humanitarian who has volunteered his medical knowledge to assist victims of such natural disasters as the earthquakes in Nepal and Nicaragua. His bilingual skills have complemented his humanitarian efforts both in the United States and abroad.
Dr. Guillen is a family man who enjoys spending time with his wife, Alexa, and their sons, Grayson and Preston. Dr. Guillen cherishes the community feel of Smithtown and is overjoyed to be practicing in Long Island, NY.
